We are delighted to share a new opportunity for the children and youth in our community to engage with the natural beauty of Mill Ridge Park. We are now offering FREE outdoor activity kits designed to encourage exploration and learning about the park's diverse landscapes, animal life, and plant life.

These kits encompass a variety of fascinating topics, including:

Trees and Plants

Berries, Nuts, and Seeds

Tracks, Scats, and Signs

Feathers, Nests, and Eggs

Frogs, Toads, and Turtles

Snakes, Salamanders, and Lizards

Wildflowers, Blooms, and Blossoms

Bugs, Insects, Critters, and Pollinators

Each kit contains a selection of useful tools and resources, such as fiction and nonfiction nature books, a nature (bug) net, a magnifying container, a headlamp, a magnifying glass, a compass, binoculars, gloves, leaf and animal rubbing plates, games, birdhouse kits, bingo, an outdoor scavenger hunt, and a notebook with a pencil. Sunscreen and bugspray will be provided. We encourage you to bring reusable water bottles and wear sturdy shoes suitable for uneven terrain while using the kits!

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone, please observe the following rules when checking out an outdoor activity kit. Kits are available for children and youth up to age 18, with parents or guardians required to accompany younger children. Each kit can be checked out for up to 14 days, with possible extensions depending on availability. All items should be returned in the kit. Please let the Community Engagement Coordinator , Grace Ingram, know about damaged items. Kits must be returned by the specified due date. Children and youth must be supervised by an adult while using the kits to ensure safety and proper use. Users are expected to respect Mill Ridge Park’s environment and wildlife, avoiding unnecessary disturbance or removal of natural features. Please clean any dirty items before returning them for future users. Accurate contact information should be provided at checkout for effective communication.
